Forest + Fauna MISSION:

Forest + Fauna’s mission is to inspire happiness for socially-minded individuals looking to improve their environmental footprint through eco-friendly creations of quality craftsmanship and artful-design.

Forest + Fauna GOALS

Forest + Fauna’s goal is to provide greener alternatives for living and giving. Forest + Fauna offers individuals a way to purchase high-quality goods that bring joy to their lives, without the use of any plastics or wasteful packaging, in a way that is sustainable and contributes to social good.

Forest + Fauna provides high-quality craftsmanship and artfully-designed creations that will stand the test of time and have no environmental impact at the end of their life-cycle.

What makes Forest + Fauna SUSTAINABLE?

The raw ingredients that Forest + Fauna uses are reclaimed or ethically sourced. The final products are truly all-natural and free from plastics or petroleum by-products, making Forest + Fauna products ecologically sustainable.

I use a lot of recycled wine crates and maple. Other hardwoods are all reclaimed and were destined for the landfill. The plywood that I use for the laser-cut products is locally sourced by a LEED-certified supplier that uses only FSC certified local lumbers and vegetable-based adhesives.

I use only the most natural finishes that are not toxic to you, me, or the environment. I aspire to create high-quality products that are made to last but that are biodegradable at the end of their life-cycle.

I use minimal to no packaging, always free from plastics, and papers are 100% recycled.

I work diligently to make the most environmentally sustainable products as possible. It is always a fine balance between creating something new and having a low environmental impact. I work hard to make eco-options so you can feel confident that you are making conscious purchasing choices that will help our environment and bring a smile to your heart.

A portion of every sale is donated to Nature Conservancy of Canada.

About your PRODUCTS:

Coasters:

Coasters are made from recycled wine crates. Each wine crate is individually sourced, cleaned, deconstructed, and turned into a silky smooth coaster. Some have the original vineyard graphics, others have original nature-inspired Forest + Fauna designs.

Each coaster is finished by hand with a polymerized linseed oil. Polymerization is a naturally occurring drying process where the oil solidifies and bonds with a wooden surface. Our selected finish is composed of 100% sustainable agricultural resources and does not contain petroleum solvent thinners or metallic driers.

Care + Maintenance: The finish on your coaster is meant to become more protective and durable over time. However, the finish is considered water-resistant, but not waterproof. We recommend the surfaces are kept dry at most times. The surface can get wet as long as it is dried off in a reasonable time.

Use a soft cloth to polish any dull areas.

If your coaster is showing some signs of watermarks, burnishing with 0000 steel wool should buff out any blemishes. It will also help bring out more of the sheen to the wood and help to highlight the grain while polishing the wood finish to a smooth texture.

Hand-Carved Pendants:

Your unique pendant was hand-carved in reclaimed maple. The dark maple is slow-roasted to give it that chocolatey dark colour!

Each pendant is finished by hand with a polymerized linseed oil. Polymerization is a naturally occurring drying process where the oil solidifies and bonds with a wooden surface. Our selected finish is composed of 100% sustainable agricultural resources and does not contain petroleum solvent thinners or metallic driers.

**Note** Early pendants circa 2018 were finished with a non-drying oil. If your pendant is starting to look a little dry, rub it with some organic virgin coconut oil to bring some pizazz back into it.

Napkin Rings:

Your napkin rings are made from carefully selected maple ply. The plywood is locally sourced by a LEED-certified supplier that uses only FSC certified local lumbers and vegetable-based adhesives. They are each sanded to a silky-smooth finished and sealed with a natural shellac. Packaged in an organic cotton muslin-bag for easy storage.

Confetti:

Your confetti is made from FSC supplied lumber and sanded to a smooth finish. It is left natural and packaged in a glass mason jar, with metal lid, 100% post-consumer paper label. It is always free from adhesives and plastics.

SHIPPING/PACKAGING:

Packages are shipped using reused packaging, papers, and boxes. If your package arrives in a mailer that contains plastic (ie. a bubble-mailer), it was a hand-me-down from a friend or family that likely received it unexpectedly. Better to reuse plastic that already exists rather than throw it away, right? Forest + Fauna (as well as Michelle and family) strive for zero-waste living.
